Chandrila is a planet created for the Star Wars universe. It is the home of the primary founder of the Rebel Alliance, Mon Mothma.

Chandrila was one of the Core Worlds, a center of political, cultural, and social influence for the rest of the galaxy.

Chandrila is the location of at least one tomb belonging to an ancient Jedi. Jaden Korr was sent here to prevent a Dark Jedi cult from gaining access to the tomb.

For a Core World, Chandrila is sparsely populated and surprisingly rural. Cities, small and scattered, are separated by terraced gardens and kilometers of gentle rolling plains. Livestock herds are allowed to roam freely, sometimes tying up traffic on the sparce thoroughfares. Residents and tourists are entranced by the Hanna Wild Game Reserve, the Gladean State Parks, and the crystal waters of Lake Sah’ot. The planet’s unspoiled beauty in fact has often been compared to Alderaan. Fresh air must be a catalyst for free thought, for the Emperor experienced nearly as much opposition from Chandrila as from Alderaan.
The native inhabitants have always felt they could discuss their political opinions without fear of official reprisal. It was in this tolerant environment that Mon Mothma grew up in a sparkling port city on the shores of the Silver Sea.

During the Clone Wars Chandrilan Senator Mon Mothma was a member of the Delegation of 2000 which presented a petition to the Chancellor with the aim of curtailing his growing executive power. When Palpatine declared himself Emperor, she was forced to flee and along with Bail Organa (Crown Prince and Senator from Alderaan) acted as leader of the Rebel Alliance.

Chandrila’s next Senator, Canna Omonda proved just as rebellious as her predecessor and the planet soon found itself under threat of invasion. Omonda was arrested and tortured into a making a false confession of crimes against the Empire. She was later scheduled for public execution as part of the Emperor’s Festive New Year celebration on Coruscant. Many Chandrilans considered themselves lucky to escape the fate of Ralltiir or Alderaan.

Many Jedi, revered throughout the galaxy, were born on this planet, such as Marduk and Yuris.

The planet was the site of a major battle between Imperial forces and Rogue Squadron. Imperial Moff Seerdon intended to blockade Hanna City, the planet’s capital, and stop all interstellar trade on the planet. His plan failed when Rogue Squadron destroyed the elite TIE Fighter squadron sent to destroy hover-trains on their way in to the city.

Six months after the Battle of Endor, seven Imperial Star Destroyers entered Chandrilan space and blockaded the planet. The blockade crumbled after a military coup on Coruscant interrupted the established line of succession. Chandrila was officially liberated a few years later, and a jubilant Mon Mothma finally returned home.

Since then, Chandrila has remained a member of the New Republic (Alliance of Free Federations).
